Weekly Newsletter
Week of: May 13th
Happy Thursday, Hero Parents! I can't believe we are coming up to our last full week of the second grade school year! It has been such a joy being your child's teacher this year!
A few quick pieces of information for the week ahead:
We are going to Third Grade Training Camp: Next week, we will wrap up the year with a fun camping themed unit called Third Grade Training Camp. We will transform our classroom library area into a mini campground. If you have any lanterns (battery operated), or other camping themed supplies that you wouldn't mind sharing for the week, we would love it!
Student Appreciation Week: Our students have worked so hard this year, and we want to celebrate them! Please check your child's Thursday folder for all the details about this exciting week!
Movie Day Permission Form: For one of the days we will be watching, "The BFG," it is rated PG, so I have placed a permission form for your child in their Thursday folder. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
Classroom Cleanout: Next week, your child will be starting to take some items home. As we are wrapping up the school year, we will be sending something home every day starting Wednesday.
Absences: Please email if your child will not be here on the last day of school please provide their final date. I want to ensure they take all items home before summer and also receive their end of the year gift from me.
EOY Bowling Party Field Trip: We are so excited about our end of the year bowling party. We hope to see all of you next Friday, May 24th at Westgate Bowling Lanes.
Poetry Rodeo: On Thursday, May 23rd2nd graders are invited to dress up western/cowboy style for a Poetry Rodeo! We will walk across the street with the aid of parent volunteers to the Hill Country gym. The middle schoolers are going to create on-demand poetry for our students based on what our kids want the poem to be about, and our kids will walk away with a poem created just for them.
Library Books Due: Please make sure all CCE library books are returned by May 21st.
What we are learning:
Reading: We are preparing for third grade this week and are learning how to "read like a third grader." We learned how to use strategies to find answers in a passage and use clues to understand what the author is trying to tell us. Students will also receive grades just like they would in third grade! They will get a numerical grade as well as a grade for showing their strategies!
Writing: We are having fun this week in writing and using our creativity to persuade others! This week we tried to convince others why they want to choose our donut the best!
Math: This week, we are reviewing concepts of addition and subtraction such as multi-step problems, adding/subtracting 3- digit numbers, and solving word problems.
Science: This week, we began our journey deep into the Ocean. We learned about the different ocean zones as well as the animals that inhabit each zone.
Technology: This week, we integrated technology during Science as we discovered the Ocean!
May 20-24: Student Appreciation Week, check your child's Thursday folder!
May 24: EOY Bowling Party
May 27: Memorial Day, No School
May 30: Last day of School! Early Dismissal at 11:50 am.
